| The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco has marked another milestone by making the first-ever consular outreach mission, dubbed Consulate on Wings, to Kodiak, Alaska on 26-28 May 2007. Kodiak is situated around 250 miles southwest of the capital city of Anchorage, Alaska and has one of the largest concentrations of Filipinos in the United States, at 48 percent of the total population.
Consul Arvic V. Arevalo led the team that conducted the outreach mission to Alaska. In Kodiak, around 300 Filipino residents of the island were served at the Teen Center in Kodiak. Many applied to re-acquire their Filipino citizenship under R.A. 9225 and availed of other services such as renewal of passports and various notarial/consularization services.
The outreach mission also provided an opportunity to promote Philippine tourism to locals and Filipino Americans. A presentation on Philippine tourism was held during the Multi-cultural program of the Kodiak Crab Festival. Many signified their interest to join the 3rd Ambassadors/Consuls General Tour in July 2007. Queries on investing in the Philippines were also entertained by the team. |
