Leyte Dance Theater to perform at Chabot College
The Leyte Dance Theater is coming to the United States to perform on Sunday, 27 May 2007 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Chabot College at 25555 Hesperian Boulevard, Hayward California 94545. The group has been performing in the country since 1997.

Dubbed “Pilipinas kong Mahal,” the group’s performance will parade an opulent tapestry of Philippine heritage, culture and history through dance, songs and drama in an enthralling performance. This will be a showcase of splendid talents and impeccable artistry that will truly captivate the heart, mind and soul of the viewers in an utterly absorbing experience.

The world-renowned Leyte Dance Theater is a non-profit organization comprised of multi-talented students and professional young men and women with a common love for dance.  It has received numerous grants from government institutions and private subsidies. 

In 1988 the Cultural Center of the Philippines Outreach Program approved a regional tour grant when LDT was then Dance Theater of Tacloban. In 1995 the NCCA granted LDT a subsidy for the project, “Dance Development Program for the Visayas and in 1999 another grant was awarded for the project, “Continuous Dance Development Training for LDT. 

Another grant from NCCA was given to LDT for its production of “Los Pintados” in 2003 and lately it partly subsidized the travel expense of LDT’s junior dance company, the Kaliawan Performing Arts Group in the 4th CIOFF Asian and Oceanian Children’s Folklore Festival. Other grants were received from the Provincial Government of Leyte, City Government of Tacloban, Department of Tourism Region 8 and the Pintados Foundation. Filipino-American associations also extend donations for scholarships and training-related programs.

The proceeds of the performance will go to the Order of Discalced Augustinians (OAD) to fund its project to build a shelter for abandoned children in the Vicariate of Ormoc, Biasong, Leyte, Philippines.
