In line with the Philippine Consulate General’s cultural promotion program, officers and staff of the Consulate General and Attached Agencies participated in the 5th Annual Parol Lantern Festival and Parade 2007 held on 8 December 2007.

The parade began at the Bayanihan Center along 6th and Mission St. and culminated at Yerba Buena Gardens, a venue of various multi-cultural activities in San Francisco.

The South of Market District (SOMA) was enlivened with hundreds of participants from the Filipino American community who carried colorful parols in various sizes.   A large parol created to represent the Consulate General was displayed in the parade, as well as the smaller individual parols made by the officers and staff of the Consulate and Attached Agencies, including their family members, during the parol-making workshop held at the Philippine Center Social Hall on 14 November 2007.

The parol festival begun with a three-month long series of parol-making workshops held in October at the Bayanihan Center in the SOMA District and various sites in San Francisco and the Bay Area.

The Parol Lantern and Festival has become popular not only to the Filipino American community but to the local San Franciscans  It is considered among the  must-see annual events during the holiday season in San Francisco.  It is organized by the Filipino American Development Foundation, in partnership with Kularts, San Francisco Art’s Commission, PG& E and Yerba Buena Gardens.
