| The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco and the Kaisahan of San Jose Dance Troupe co-organized the Bay Area performance of the award winning musical “Something to Crow About.” The musical was directed by Presidential Adviser on Culture, Ms. Cecile Guidote Alvarez based on the award-winning book of the same title by national artist for literature Dr. Alejandro Roces. |

Prior to the well received Bay Area performance, the 47-member theater company had shows in New York and Los Angeles. The musical bears the hallmark of some fascinating scenes from Dr. Roces’ book marked with wit, humor and satire, highlighting the traditional sport of cockfighting as a vehicle to unfold the colorful panorama of customs, heritage, values, religions, and even relationships on the social, political, and economic life of a typical Filipino town.
The musical debuted in Northern California to a full house, which included Milpitas Mayor Jose Estevez at the Louis B. Mayer Theater in Santa Clara University, Santa Clara California on 1 July 2007 at 3 in the afternoon. The members of the audience were enthralled by the performance and found it to be thoroughly entertaining.
Consul General Maria Rowena Mendoza Sanchez said, “The Philippine Consulate General eagerly supports theater companies like this group because we are able to showcase to the Bay Area the latent talent of the Filipino in the field of theater.”
“Presidential Adviser Cecile Guidote Alvarez and Dr. Alejandro Roces and all the performers have brought to life a heartwarming story that promotes our country, our values, and our people,” she added. |
