“The Filipino soldiers who fought under the U.S. flag during World War II should be treated equally as other American veterans of that conflict. The U.S. Government has the moral obligation to do what is right for these surviving Filipino veterans, who fought bravely and loyally for the American cause,” Congresswoman Lofgren said.

Consul General Maria Rowena Mendoza Sanchez thanked Congresswoman Lofgren for her membership in the US-RP Friendship Caucus and for her continuing support to the Philippines.

“My meeting with Congresswoman Lofgren is intended not only to discuss important bilateral matters between our two countries, but also to convey our sincere appreciation for her continuing concern for the interests of the Philippines, including those of our surviving Filipino war veterans,” Consul General Sanchez said.

The US-RP Friendship Caucus presently has 76 members, including 7 sponsors. The members of this bipartisan congressional group represent a cross section of U.S. legislators whose respective districts have large numbers of Filipino American residents.
