Gulf War Claims Still Available

The United Nations Compensation Commission (UNCC) has set 28 May 2007 as the final deadline in paying Gulf war claimants.

            Gulf war claimants are Filipino contract workers, companies or agencies affected by the 1990 Iraq-Kuwait war and whose war damage claims were approved by the UNCC since 7 April 2007.

            The claim covers expenses incurred by the OFW for departure or travel expenses from Kuwait or Iraq as well as loss of personal properties as a result of the war. Compensations not claimed on due date will be returned to the UNCC under its existing guidelines.

            Following is a list of unlocated Gulf war claimants with unclaimed compensation despite communications sent to the last known addresses:

            Claimants whose names are on the list are advised to immediately contact the Philippine Claims and Compensation Committee Secretariat (PCCCS) located at the 3rd Floor of the Department of Foreign Affairs Building, Pasay City with telephone number (63-2) 832-5303 and ask for Mr. Mike Lorenzo.

            The Philippine Claims and Compensation Committee (PCCC) was created through Executive Order No. 487, series of 1991, to undertake information dissemination, accept, verify and process all applications for claims by individuals and entities affected by Iraq’s actions in Kuwait from 1990 to 1991 and to submit these to the UNCC. It is chaired by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, with the Secretary of Labor as vice chair.  Member agencies are the Department of Justice, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and the Philippine Information Agency.  END.
