SF Consulate Issues Warning To Fil-Am Community In View Of RP Government’s Total Ban Of OFW Deployment In Iraq

The Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila has issued a directive to its foreign service posts abroad to implement its policy on the total ban of deployment of Overseas Filipino Workers to Iraq without exception. This would mean that all Filipino nationals, regardless of working status, are prohibited from entering or re-entering Iraq in view of the dangerous security situation in the country characterized by the continued abduction of foreign nationals including diplomats.

While lifting the ban will be contrary to the government’s ongoing voluntary repatriation program for OFWs presently in Iraq and willing to come home, the DFA in close coordination with the Philippine Embassy in Iraq, concludes that the deployment should only be lifted once the situation in Iraq becomes conducive for the deployment of OFWs

In view of the dangerous situation still pervading in Iraq, the Philippine Consulate in San Francisco would like to advise the Fil-Am community in the San Francisco Bay Area who intend to travel to Iraq to defer such plans until the situation in that country has normalized.

For more information, the public is advised to log on to the Department of Foreign Affairs website at www.dfa.gov.ph.
