SF Consulate announces revised rules that will speed up the process on the shipment of human remains to the Philippines

In order to rationalize and simplify the rules governing the shipment of human remains to the Philippines the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila has issued the following amendments to its existing rules which shall take effect on 05 December 2005:

Under the new regulations, the sealing of the casket or urn by a Foreign Service Officer, or his presence at said sealing, shall no longer be required for the issuance of the Consular Mortuary Certificate.

This Certificate states that that the remains were embalmed/cremated and properly encased shall be issued by the Philippine Consulate along with the Report of Death and shall require the following documents:
  • Certified copy of the Certificate of death issued by the local civil registrar, or similar authority, showing the name, age and nationality of the deceased person, as well as the place, date and cause of death.

  • A duly notarized certificate issued by the Mortuary/Funeral Director, stating that the body was properly embalmed /cremated in accordance with internationally accepted health practice;

  • A certificate of Non-Contagious Disease issued by proper health authorities stating that the deceased did not die of contagious disease.

  • A permit for the disposition of human remains issued by local Department of Health at the place where transportation of the human remains will begin.
The fee for the Report of Death and Consular Mortuary Certificate is $25.00. Payments should be made only in the form of a money order, cashier's check or bank draft and must be made payable to the Philippine Consulate General.
