Fil-Am Community to Fete Dancing with the Stars Champion
Dancing with the Stars Champion Filipino-American Cheryl Bautista Burke with Drew Lachey
Members of the Filipino-American community and the Philippine
Center in San Francisco are hosting a victory party for Cheryl
Bautista Burke who won global acclaim after she and her partner
Drew Lachey beat out the other finalists in the Dancing with
the Stars Competition which had its second season on ABC television.
The celebrities that Cheryl and Drew beat out include such big
names as George Hamilton and his partner Edyta Sliwinska, Lisa
Rinna and Louis Van Amstel, and Bay Area football icon Jerry
Rice and his partner Anna Trebunskaya.
The reception entitled “A Salute to the Young Champion”
will be held at the Westin St. Francis Hotel in Union Square
at Alexandra’s Room on 30 May 2006, Tuesday from 6:00
p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Advance tickets for the event will be sold
at $100.00 while tickets at the door will be sold for $125.00.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to various charities
that focus on the development of the youth. There will be a
short program during the event and ballroom dancing afterwards
which will of course be led by Ms. Burke.
Consul General Maria Rowena Mendoza Sanchez said “Cheryl’s
achievement is one all Filipino-Americans should be proud of.
Cheryl is living proof of the Filipino-American’s talent,
ability and gracefulness. It is very fitting that we have this
victory party in her honor for she has instilled so much pride
in our Filipino-American community.”
Sherri Burke, Cheryl’s mother said “Cheryl looks
forward to this occasion so that she can thank our Filipino-American
community herself for their support.”
