SF Consulate Calls For More Support To The CGMA Project

The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco is pleased to announce that the Classroom Galing sa Mamamayan Pilipino Abroad (CGMA) Project Committee headed by Undersecretary Danilo Cruz of the Department of Labor and Employment has released a scoreboard on the number of classrooms donated by overseas Filipinos as of 31 December 2005.

As of 31 December, a total of 375 classrooms were donated by our kababayans in the Americas, Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Filipinos in the United States led the tally with a donation of 87 classrooms. The Filipino community in San Francisco donated 13 classrooms.

There is still a need for 9,647 classrooms. As of this date, CGMA has received urgent requests for classrooms from forty-two schools in various parts of the country as conveyed by the municipal mayors and local officials in their region.

Consul General Maria Rowena Mendoza Sanchez said Òone of the ways we can improve the situation in the country is through the education of our youth and this can only be done if they have the proper learning environment.Ó

ÒThe Filipino community the world over through the Classroom Galing Sa Mamamayan Abroad project is investing in our most potent asset and that is our youth. I hope that the Filipino-American community here will continue to support CGMA given that there is still a great need,Ó she added.
