CGMA project receives enthusiastic response from the overseas Filipino community, SF Consulate calls for more support
The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco is pleased to announce that the Classroom, Galing Sa Mamayan Pilipino Abroad" (CGMA) Project Executive Committee headed by Undersecretary Danilo Cruz of the Department of Labor of Employment has released a Scoreboard on the number of classrooms donated by overseas Filipinos this year.
As of 30 September 2005, a total of 353 classrooms were donated by our Kababayans in the Americas, Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Filipino-Americans in the United States which are estimated to number 2,167,998 led the tally with a donation of 71 classrooms. In San Francisco and the Bay Area the Filipino community donated 13 classrooms.
The Philippine Consulate General would like to thank the Filipino community for their support to the Project which aims to construct 10,000 classrooms in the Philippines that will be built in priority elementary and secondary public schools with critical classroom shortages identified by the Philippine Department of Education. However, the country is still in dire need of 9,647 classrooms. The continuing valuable assistance of the Fil-Am community to this worthwhile project, therefore, would go a long way towards the attainment of quality education for the school children in the Philippines.
The Philippine Consulate General calls on all organizations to continue to support the CGMA project especially in this coming season of giving and sharing.
For more information on the Project, please contact the Philippine Consulate General at tel. no. (415) 433-6666.
