Ambassador Albert Del Rosario Conveys Message Of Appreciation To The Fil-Am Community In The United States For High Record Of Money Remittance To Rp
Philippine Ambassador Albert F. del Rosario thanked the Filipino-American
community all over the United States for their record high remittances
and their contribution to the growth of the Philippine economy.
He delivered is message in Washington on 11 January 2006. The
full text of his message follows:
“On behalf of President Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo, I wish
to express profound appreciation to the members of the Filipino-American
community for their overwhelming response to a campaign which
the Philippine Embassy launched last year together with all
our Consulates in the United States.
This was our campaign to increase remittances to your families
and relatives by at least 20%. Your unequivocal support has yielded
outstanding results: remittances from the United States increased
by a record-breaking 32.4% compared to the previous year.
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas reported that from January to
October 2005 – the period for which latest statistics
are available – remittances from the United States totaled
$ 5.32 billion out of the worldwide total of $ 8.83 billion,
or 60% of the total global remittances.
This is a remarkable achievement considering that less than
30% of an estimated 8.1 million Filipinos overseas, or specifically the
estimated 2.5 million Filipinos in the United States, have generated
60% of the total worldwide remittances.
Each and every one of you deserves our heartfelt congratulations
for the resounding success of this campaign. I likewise wish to thank
our friends from the Filipino-American media who did more than their share
by fully supporting our US-wide campaign.
Once again, by working together, we have added new bricks to
the edifice
of a stronger Philippines. |
